Paul Hannon

About the artist

Paul is a former financial journalist now working as a painter and printmaker in southwest London. Woodcuts and linocuts are his artistic heartland, deriving inspiration from the techniques of Edvard Munch and some German Expressionists.

Instead of printing large blocks of solid colour, Paul takes the reductive techniques of woodcuts and linocuts to the limit, often producing what are fine line drawings, teeming with movement and pace. A lot of his images border on abstraction. He keeps his edition sizes quite small, with each one typically limited to a print run of 25.

His recent oil paintings are dominated by a series of large semi-abstract landscapes.

In earlier lives, he worked as a book publisher, a magazine editor, a scriptwriter, and a short-film maker.

He has exhibited at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, the London Festival of Print, the Horsebridge Gallery in Whitstable, and the Barbican Library in London. Planned exhibitions for 2024 include the Philips Gallery in Walton-on-Thames and the Oxmarket Gallery in Chichester.

Paul is also a member of East London Printmakers and Richmond Printmakers.
