Pookie Blezard

About the artist

Pookie was born and brought up in Barnes. She has been the owner and creative director of the womenswear brand Pazuki for over 35 years.

Originally trained at Camberwell School of Art where on the foundation course there was a strong emphasis on drawing and painting from life, she moved on to specialise in printed textiles. She has now come full circle back to painting, and this has now become the source of inspiration for her recent fabric designs.

“I got bored with the digital image and being on a computer all the time. Working with oils, mixing colour and applying brush strokes directly, gives my work a much more personal feel. There’s something magical about losing yourself while staring at a flower or still-life for hours, and it’s far more fulfilling than looking at a computer screen.”

All the paintings are used to make fabric designs, sometimes using just bits of them, other times overlaying, or mixing them up together.

Currently painting is her passion and the experience of decades of pattern making and choosing colours is evident in the work.
